Curricubits offers integrated curriculum that is fully scripted to make it easy for afterschool programs, homeschools, or educational camps to provide quality content for students without the expense of providing intensive training for staff, parents, or counselors. Aligned with national standards, Curricubits themed curriculum is the perfect choice for any elementary level afterschool program, homeschool, or educational camp that wants to engage children and increase learning. A note from Curricubits creator Camille Diaz...
I created the first drafts of Curricubits out of necessity while working at the Expanding Horizons Afterschool Program in Oxnard, California. In addition to top tier mathematics and reading activities, we wanted to provide something new that was both educational and highly engaging for students. The original goal was to organize new lessons into packets, so all the activities for a week would center on a theme, thus increasing students' interest and learning.
As I put together the first packet I wrote and included my own new activities. When my director looked it over she said that the activities were good but there was a problem. She knew the staff that we had were not certified teachers and they would not be ready to teach these new activities without more specific instruction. Following her advice, I began changing the structure of the curriculum to the "say and do" format that it has today.
The afterschool program took on additional schools and I quickly ran out of time to write curriculum at work. However, I believed in the idea and enjoyed the project, so I continued to create themed curriculum at home on weekends and in the evenings. It wasn't long before I was training every group leader in the afterschool program to use my new curricula. The best part was that our students were continuing to show increased school attendance and higher test scores, and they were having fun doing it!
After the Oxnard School District closed the Expanding Horizons Afterschool Program in October 2005, I started focusing my efforts on my goal of bringing this new style of integrated, scripted curriculum to all afterschool, homeschool, and educational camp leaders in need of a solution to their curriculum puzzle. I finally launched Curricubits in November 2007 and we are going strong. Thank you so much for visiting our website and I hope we can work together to make your program great.
