CASRC Approves Curricubits Materials

Article By: Camille Diaz , Creator of Curricubits

At a conference last winter we were approached by the California Afterschool Resource Center (CASRC) representatives who were interested in reviewing materials from newer afterschool resources like Curricubits.  We subsequently submitted our materials for review.  The CASRC review process checks to make sure curriculum is research based, aligned with standards, and actually works for afterschool programs.  Once approved, Curricubits was listed on the CASRC website and added to the CASRC Library.

Here’s how CASRC describes our materials on their website.

“This material consists of three binders, each containing eight to 15 activities based on these themes: Family, Geology, and Oceans. Through hands-on activities and experiments, students reinforce their conceptual understanding of complex topics, such as heritage, volcanoes, and density. Activities include investigating family names, building an earthquake simulator, and graphing fish populations with software. The lessons are scripted and contain simple, step-by-step procedures for delivery, as well as pre- and post-quizzes. Most involve scientific thinking, creative expression, and opportunities for students to showcase their work or extend the learning. Additional lessons and themes are available from the publisher at http://curricubits.com/.”

And here’s what their reviewer added in their notes about Curricubits.

“The activities in this resource are fun and helpful in reinforcing knowledge in various content areas. Lessons can be taught as stand-alone or as part of the larger theme. There may be minimal costs involved in purchasing the materials needed for the activities, but most are common household items.”

Not all of our products are available through the CASRC Library, so be sure to check the Curricubits website for a full listing of our available lessons.  If you’re not sure what theme or lesson is right for your program, contact us.  We’re always happy to help!
